Need some ideas and thoughts. I'm replacing the blue canvas "top" of my
center console T top. It's perhaps 4'x7', and has lots of grommets/holes
along the edges. The original top was smaller than the frame it went in,
and was held in place with a long, 1/8" nylon rope lacing.

I don't mind going back with the lacing approach, but I really flinch when
I think about how I may never get it right. Could be one way too much or
too little, cocked, etc). Each lacing will be tedious, and time consuming.

I'm considering if using heavy white wire ties would ultimately give me the
strength I need. Sure would be easier to put it on with them than having to
use the lacing.

The wire ties would look acceptable (nipped off after being snugged up), and
just might be strong enough, in quantity (the forces against the canvas
would be distributed ones). Will this work?

Any other thoughts?

It will probably work but you will not be able to adjust it like you
can with lacing since the wire ties can only be tightened, not
released.

The lacing may seem like a PITA but I'm betting that it will go faster
than you think once you get the hang of it. It is very easy to adjust
the tension once you get the lacing cord in place.
